The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority is offering free summer programs at two of its local parks: the King Gillette Ranch and the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve. King Gillette Ranch is at 26800 Mulholland Hwy, Calabasas.
Family Fun Night
Every Tuesday throughout the summer (July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29) at 7 p.m. there will be evenings full of story-telling, songs, nature programs and marshmallows. Bring a blanket or chair. The marshmallows, skewers, and weather permitting, a great campfire will be provided. Last Tuesday is August 26. Meet at the parking lot to the left of the bridge. The evenings last an estimated 90 minutes.

Take a deeper look into astronomy. We will explore the wonders that the sky and park hold for us. Meet at the Victory Entrance. 1½-2 hours, moderate ½-mile hike.

Dog Days of summer
A fun way for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders to practice their new reading skills in scheduled five-minute sessions with especially trained dogs and qualified handlers. Dogs can help young readers relax by listening patiently, allowing children to read at their own pace. The registered therapy dogs have been trained and tested for health, safety, appropriate skills and temperament. Please sign up in advance at the Children’s Help Desk. Location: Grant R. The city of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services announces openings in KidStage, a fun-filled, energetic drama class for kids. Ages 6-11 years. Summer art camps
for children
The city of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services announces two new art camps for children: Cartoon Under the Sea Camp and Anime Cartoon Camp, to be held at Sumac Elementary School this summer. Cartoon Under the Sea Camp for children ages 6-9 is scheduled for July 7 –July 10 from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. This camp will teach children to draw a variety of sea creatures and will feature a large scene of the coral reef environment for the final project. $84. All materials are included. Anime Cartoon Camp for children ages 9-12 will engage children in a four-day adventure learning to draw cartoons in the Anime art style. The camp will focus on creating original Anime characters, using a variety of facial expressions and action movements. The Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library are sponsoring a Used Book Sale to benefit the Thousand Oaks Library. The July meeting of the Conejo Orchid Society will be held on July 14th at 7 p.m. The meeting will be at the Westlake Village City Hall, 233300 Oak Crest drive. Video camp for teens
The city of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services is offering a video camp for Teen ages 13-18 years. Students will learn to write, light, shoot, and edit their own videos and upload them to the Web. Final videos will be posted on a special website for families and friends to enjoy. Camp instructors have taught Video Production for Teens at Stanford University and UC Berkeley and have over 15 years of experience. July 14 – July 18 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. $495. Sibling discounts. Summer football camp
The city of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services announces that registrations are now being accepted for the “Summer Football Camp” for ages 9 - 14 years of age. The head coach of the Agoura Hills High School Football Team will offer a weeklong camp.
