Women need man's perspective
January 8, 2010
For years now, Wayne M. Levine, M.A., has been the go-to guy for men looking for answers about how to be better men, husbands and fathers. He has, literally, written the book on the topic.
Through groups, retreats, and individual and couples coaching, he has helped men find better paths in their lives and relationships.
Now, Levine, director of BetterMen.org, is setting his sights on women. Beginning in February, he will offer an all-women support group to help them be happier women, wives and mothers. They’ll also gain a better understanding of some of those mysterious things about men that can, well, drive women crazy.
“The women will have an opportunity to discover what motivates men and how men think,” Levine said. “They’ll also learn to better understand and improve their relationships and get the support of other, caring women.”
Levine said the program is also designed to support women to stop settling for less than they deserve, to provide a loving and nurturing home for their children, and to develop trusting relationships with other caring women.
As the group facilitator, Levine will be providing the man’s perspective as the women support each other to find solutions to their relationship and life challenges.
As with his men’s groups, Levine said this won’t be just a casual conversation but an intensive series of interactive meetings aimed at giving women tools they can use to improve all of their relationships.
“They’ll be learning new skills and sharing advice to become happier, more satisfied women,” Levine said. “We’ll focus on topics that really matter to women, from communication and parenting skills, to increasing self-confidence and developing a clear vision of the women they truly want to be.”
Levine will also introduce topics with which women may be entirely unfamiliar, like why men’s egos can be so frail at times, or wounds they may be carrying that affect their relationships.
“Women have always wanted to be the fly-on-the-wall in our men’s groups so they can understand their men,” he said. “Participating in our women’s groups will provide them with that insight.”
“It will be,” Levine said, “a refreshing and productive way for women to approach their concerns about their relationships and lives. We’ll offer solutions. They’ll develop friendships and learn new skills in a dynamic, fun environment. I think they’ll really enjoy it.”
