Agoura Hills Dance offers variety of workshops this year

The New Year is here and Agoura Hills Dance is offering more classes than ever for adults and children of all ages.
January and February are special months, and Agoura Hills Dance is offering amazing Master Weekend Workshops for dancers of all ages and levels. Sunday, Jan 10, Agoura Hills Dance is bringing in the New Year hopping, with a crew from “Urban Legends” Hip Hop team.
Three remarkable instructors and cutting edge choreographers will be offering a day that you won’t want to miss. Featuring Nick Zborowski, Brad Dulin and BJ Cox. Classes start at 11:00 a.m.
First up, Brad Dulin teaching a Beg/Int Teen Hip Hop class, 11-12:30 p.m., and for our younger students, a beginning Hip Hop ages 7+ with BJ Cox at 11:00-12:00 p.m.
Next for Int/Adv teen dancers, have Nick Zborowski teaching 12:30-2:00 p.m., and from 12:00-1:00 p.., Beginners ages 10+ with BJ. Prices for the 1 1/2 hour classes are $25.00, or take both for $40.00, and the one hour classes are $20.00, and for both $30.00.
Ages are a guideline, as some younger ages are able to take the higher levels if ready.
Saturday Jan 16th offers a special day of Tap with Linda Sohl-Ellison, company artistic director for “Rhapsody In Taps.” Linda Sohl-Ellison, artistic director and choreographer, co-founded Rhapsody In Taps with Toni Tack in 1981.
Linda has a BFA from Ohio University in Dance and Graphic Design and an MA from UCLA. Her training includes studies under the great tap masters Foster Johnson, Eddie Brown, Honi Coles and Buster Brown.
She collaborated with Gregory Hines, staging and performing in his first choreographic work, Toeing the 3rd and Fifth made for Rhapsody In Taps in 1990.
Recognized for her choreographic innovation in tap, she has been awarded five Choreographers’ Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, two Irvine Fellowships in Dance (1999, 2001) and a Dance: Creation to Performance grant (2006) from the James Irvine Foundation.
In 1999 Linda was nominated for the prestigious Alpert Award in Dance. She has received Choreography Fellowships from the California Arts Council, Arts Council for Long Beach, Public Corporation for the Arts, National Association for Regional Ballet, and California Community Foundation.
In 2006 she received a Lester Horton Dance Award for Outstanding Choreography from the Dance Resource Center of Los Angeles and a Distinguished Alumni Award from Ohio University.
Linda is a Professor of Dance at Orange Coast College since 1978, where she teaches many dance forms, directs the annual student dance concert and mentors dancers with professional career goals. She was the founder and director of the Southern California Tap Festival from 1993 –97, participated in many tap festivals and tap film documentaries and has toured throughout the U.S., Asia, France and Germany teaching and performing.
Linda’s classes will be Intermediate 1-2:30 pm; Int/Adv. 2:45-4:15 pm.
Prices are the same as Urban legends, $25.00 for one class or $40.00 for both. Linda will have a live drummer as well as music on CDs.

In February, Agoura Hills Dance will offer another amazing day of Hip Hop with the Master himself, Anthony Thomas. Anthony taught attendees of last fall’s memorable workshop , Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation for which he was an MTV award-winning choreographer of this highly acclaimed video, which is now considered a classic.
This time Anthony will be teaching the original choreography for the brilliant video, Miss You Much.
Dancers will have the privilege of working with one of the industry’s most highly revered hip hop/popping and locking choreographers of our time.
“Anthony travels all over the United States and the world teaching this workshop, and we are incredibly fortunate that he is right here in our town sharing his gifts with our community of dancers”
This class will be Saturday February 27 from 2-3:30 p.m. The cost is $25.00.
